All things sleep related
« on: July 12, 2012, 08:46:50 AM »

Before the cry goes up about duplicate threads I searched for the previous 'sleep' thread and couldn't find it.

Anyway I just wanted to say what a strange thing happened last night.

My neck and shoulders have been quite stiff and painful the last few days for whatever reason and the Ibuprofen gel was not helping.  Yesterday I took Ibuprofen tablets with paracetamol at each of my meals as I have often done before.  However I forgot to have it with my dinner, so at 9pm I had some weetabix and took them.

We went to bed about 10.20 and that's all I remember for 8 hours!  No waking up hot to throw the cover back and then waking up cold to pull it back again.  No hearing hubby snoring, no waking up wanting to wee, no waking up at all for 8 hours.  Also no silly, vivid exhausting dreams.

Now I am not advocating taking pain killers and anti inflammatories every night but it seems a strange co incidence, I haven't slept 8 hours straight for over 2 years .  Whatever it was I'd like to bottle it  :)

Hi Mrs P

I've taken paracetamol in the past when I couldn't get to sleep (which luckily is not very often). I'm not sure quite when I realised they had the effect of making me sleep. Also recently I've taken 'non-drowsy' hayfever tablets - they knock me out in the afternnons as well as the night!  :o :o I've stopped taking them as it's not good to be comatose in the afternoons!

I had a night full of weird dreams last night. When hubby woke me at 6am the first thing I said was I'd lost my shoes. I dream that a lot - wonder what it could mean?  ???

Paracetamol can be dangerous in quantity though

I think I would feel dead if I slept for all that time - I can't remember ever having eight hours sleep. Glad you feel better for it mrs purple.

The other thread is here just in case there is any info which is relevant to members reading this one http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,15597.0.html

Oh a good night's sleep makes such a difference.  A few mornings in the year I tell HImself "I feel really rested this morning" but it isn't often  >:(

I take paracetamol and ibuprofen every night for pain relief but unfortunately does nothing for my sleep. The hot flushes, chills, palpitations and nausea make sure I am awake most of the night.
Glad it seems to work for you Mrs.P.

You can take both paracetamol and ibuprofen together because they have different target organs. Paracetamol targets the liver and ibuprofen targets the stomach and gut.  I take ibuprofen most nights because I have a chronic back condition, I might try adding in a couple of paracetamol to see if they help me sleep. At the moment I'm relying on Nytol which works reasonably well, without them I just don't sleep well at all.

Hi Girls,

Just back from hols :sunny: :bbq: in Nice, France which was fantastic and about 10 degrees hotter than here!  Tried to sleep in a very hot bedroom with no air con and windows open, noise from traffic, jazz bands and dogs barking below! Phew, hard to tell what was a hot flush or not, but did feel a sudden surge, as if I was about to start a race, then sweating then would have to go and splash with a lot of drinking  water!  Very unpleasant.

Was able to sleep with all the bedding on last night at home, which was a novelty, no more surges! :)  I agree that paracetamol makes you sleepy.

Welcome back Pixie. Always fancied Nice but think I would have to go out of season to avoid the heat.
Hope you still managed to enjoy your break. Don't think you'll need high factor lotion here quite yet.

I also find paracetamol or ibruprofin helps me sleep. I've never tried taking them both at once, although my daughter-in-law, who is a doctor, assures me that it is fine to do so.
