Hip Pain
« on: July 07, 2012, 06:35:23 PM »

My hips have not been right since my pregnancies- I had SPD with both which is a hormonal condition and I have to admit to being over weight too.
On and off over the last few years I have had some hip discomfort, doesnt feel like the joint, feels more like a pulled ligamanet or something. Since being on HRT I have noticed a bit of a pattern, it's at it's worst at around the same time every month. Rest and pain killers help and it only lasts for a couple of days.

I just wondered if anyone else has had any similar experiences ?? ???

Hi!   Hip pain is always in the groin!  Where we feel our 'hips' to be is often the tendon which probably has a long name like fixator? which pulls over the outside of the hip bone.  Back pain is over that region too and sciatica  ::)

Can you remind me what 'spd' stands for?

yes but I cant spell it LOL. Symphasis pubic dysfunction- or something like that . The pain I get now is in a very similar place and since it's a hormonal complaint I made the link with my hormones being all over the place now. I know they are different hormones but in my head there's a link. Yes my pain is in one hip and accross the front of my groin. Not fun !!

Hello MrsB

My daughter had SPD (Symphysis pubis dysfunction) when she was expecting and had to use crutches.  She was in great pain.  I believe the pelvis can be misaligned and hormones cause the hip to become looser than it should, sooner than it should so it becomes unstable.  Very painful condition.  It meant she had to have a C-section too.

The physiotherapist did some work with her and she said that helped tremendously before birth and after.
Perhaps if you are suffering you could get some physiotherapy?

Totally agree with Firewalker.  Hormones often trigger this plus the stretching of pregnancy.

Good luck.  And do ask for physiotherapy.

My friend developed RA when she was pregnant, in a wheelchair until the child was nearly 2!

Hormones  >:(

I've had this kind of hip pain on and off most of my adult life... it's hormone related (cyclical), but doctors were unable to recognise it (I went many times!). Painkillers and rest I find are the best thing. It's getting worse as I get older though  :(.

I have found that it seems to be worse if I have thrush too? Both things generally happen around the same time of the month for me.

I feel your pain and send a virtual hug, and just wanted you to know that you are not alone!
