I've been up most of night.  His breathing is loud and horrible and yet he sleeps all day quietly.

I am eating and haven't lost weight.  Checked blood sugar yesterday.  It was 98 after breakfast.  But I'm eating a lot of sugary stuff, which I normally do not.  I need the energy.

I'm going to go in other room in desperation, but then I'll worry he'll get twisted in bed rails.

I shouldn't be posting this.  4 am yuk.

Of course you should be posting it, Trey - anything which helps.
Well done for looking after your health as well as you can; that's what will help you to help Don and it's what he would want anyway. He's probably reassured as he knows you well enough to realise that you'll take care of both of you. The last thing he would want now is you suffering more than necessary.  :foryou:

Hope you have had some sleep Trey. Take it gently when you can. good you haven't loss weight. Don't worry about your diet too much. I guess you eat healthily so a bit of junk won't do too much harm. As you say you need the sugar for energy

Do you have a hand bell?   Don could ring it if he gets stuck? and you could doze more easily.  Or the dogs will wake you ........ it isn't going to be easy but you will look back and forget the messyness of it all.

Don is half paralyzed and cannot understand or remember simple instructions.  But he can discuss global economic conditions.  I think the sleeping meds are making things much worse at night so I'm going to try and cut back a bit.

Trey, I just wanted to say I have been reading all the posts and I am really sorry to hear about Don. By the sound of it you are doing a sterling job in looking after him. I hope you manage to get some respite yourself sometimes, you're a brave woman - please look after yourself and accept help at any opportunity. Hugs x

The night hours are always the worse. Sleep is deeper at night no matter if you sleep during the day and perhaps thats why his breathing sounds different.

Sending you both lots of love and positive thoughts.

I'm cutting back on sleeping meds tonight and hopefully he will be more with it in the early am.  He had to be in the ugly lift this morning to transfer to wheelchair and I still think he is too drugged to bear weight or speak correctly, because later in day he's so much better.  Well see.

The neighbors have been wonderful and the nursing assistant an absolute gift.  She told me today that no one gets a CNA five days seek, but Don.  And I told her that maybe no one has threatened to call Washington, DC and Medicare to ask where the OT, PT, light house keeping, shopping people from Hospice were.  She laughed and said it is disgusting.  We adore her.  She said the answer to any patient complaint is more drugs.

Both dogs and the rabbit hover around him.  TJ jumped up into the hospital bed and kissed him over and over and the rabbit insists on being right at his feet when in wheelchair.  Animals know.  And Taylorsue keeps vigil on floor next to bed.  Lots of love in this house.

30th anniversary is on the 17 th.

Isn't it strange how animals know these things.  Clever little things.  Hopefully, Don is getting some comfort from them.

The animals will be beside him every step of the way.

A few years ago when my hubby was very ill our little dog sat on his lap for hour after hour. She just knew....now when anyone is unwell she is on the bed along with them. Its a 6th sense and one that bring such comfort.
