Have to stop taking Femoston Conti!

Hi Londongirl

Bleeding has stopped now and I had my Transvaginal scan yesterday, all went ok with normal womb lining and normal ovaries.  I've been two weeks off Hrt now and I've not had any flushes, sweats or episodes of Thrush as yet, but I'm feeling really dry down below so I'm back on the Replens moisturiser at the moment.  I also had some blood tests last week and they are all ok but I have to take a urine sample next time I go.  I'm not sure why?

I have a GP appointment next week to discuss my options.  I would like to go back on Femoston but as I have no menopause symptoms just now, I doubt whether she will let me.  I'll probably have to wait until they are back with a vengance then it will take another 6 weeks to settle again.

Another symptom that is getting me down is the heartburn I am suffering at night despite taking Lanzoprazole, I will also discuss this when I next see my GP.

Like you, one GP said let things settle but then another GP said that I needed a scan because I should not be bleeding on a conti Hrt.  She frightened the life out of me!!  I don't blame you for not wanting to stop the Hrt, I also felt really good on it and now I'm dreading the return of those horrible symptoms.

Hope things settle down for you soon.

Hi Jasmine

I am pleased to hear you are not having any of the dreaded symptoms! Hope that continues.

I have put on another thread just now that I am still spotting..... in fact it didn't stop really since March 22nd............ and now I have another fully blown period, rather heavy in fact!

I saw a new gp at my surgery on Monday who initially mentioned a scan but I wasn't keen as I said to her am sure it's the HRT causing this, nothing else and she agreed.  We agreed to wait another couple of months to see how things go.  I am on my fourth month of HRT............

I hope things go well for you.

Just an update - transvaginal scan - fine, blood and urine tests- fine.  Can I go back on hrt - NO!!  According to my GP she's still not satisfied and wants to send me for the 'gold standard' test by a Gyneocologist of "having a look inside"

I'm feeling totally fed up because I'm now 4 weeks off hrt and starting to suffer symptoms again, mostly mood swings and the odd night sweat.  I know she's just being cautious but I'm 100% confident that the spotting/bleeding that I experienced, (no problems since stopping) was caused by the Femoston Conti.  Also I'm going on holiday soon and I really dont want to be suffering meno symptoms which could potentially ruin my holiday.

Can anyone advise as to where I go from here please?

Jasmine xx

I'm also surprised at this, Jasmine. I recently had spotting problems (on Femoston sequi but also mini-pill, so actually getting constant prog.) I had the scan (all clear) and had meantime stopped the mini-pill and all spotting had gone. My gp (who is very HRT-savvy) had always thought that it was just hormones but wanted the scan to be sure and is now happy for me to go back on the mini-pill, having had 2 "clear" cycles. If the spotting returns, we may think again but she is happy now that I've had a scan.
Why not try Susan's idea? TBH, I don't think she knows much about HRT considering various comments she has made and that may be making her more wary. If sending you to a gynae puts her mind at rest, fine but meantime you should be able to go back on HRT if you want to.

Hi again Jasmine

I see you keep mentioning wanting to try patches

When you eventually go back onto HRT (hopefully soon!) why not ask for Estradot patches - they are very small and stick well (subject to usual precautions re moisturisers etc)- changed twice weekly.

You would need a separate prog and there are only 2 to choose from when using separate prog and oestrogen so I would recommend Utrogestan as it is bio-identical. The conti version recommends coming off for 3 days just to make sure there is no build up (day 25-28) although jaycee who is sadly no longer on this forum looked up the research to show it was OK to take it completely continuously.

Hope this helps and quite understand your feelings about your holiday.....

With patches the negative physical symptoms settle fairly quickly (I;ve never used tabs so can't say here).

Hope this helps
