Some people have sent off their jewellry and never had any money back. You could ask at a local Auction house or go to an antiques fair for advice.

My pal when she got divorced after 25 years of marriage had hers melted down
She then had a knocklet made for her 2 girls with diamonds in that cme from her eng ring and eternity ring
Fraid Id have sold the buggars myself hehehehe

I asked himself and he told me that he would take any excess gold etc. to the dealer we know locally: or a 'good' jewellry shop but maybe they want to make more of a margin!
