Five Menopause Makeover Tips

Autumn/Winter 2012

All women dread the menopause paunch or menopause belly. It is one of the sure signs that they are starting to get older because it is the type of belly that, although not impossible, is difficult to diminish with exercise and healthy diet. Luckily, where genetics may fall short, fashion will not! Here are a few menopause makeover tips that will help you hide that belly and keep looking fabulous!

  1. Wear solid colours
Prints are the wrong thing to wear if you are hiding a paunch because they are likely to accentuate the area. Solid colours help hide ANY flaw on the body because of the continuity. Black is the best colour to use, of course, but many other colours can give the same effect.
  2. Wear long tops
If you wear longer tops, those that go past your hips, you are creating longer lines, which will give the illusion of slimness. This is a good way to hide the excess fat around your belly area. If the tops can also accentuate another part of your body, your arms, for example, even better as this will draw attention away from your stomach.
  3. Wear high-waisted pants
High-waisted pants are back in fashion! Use this to your advantage and cinch your waist! This can help you hide that bit of bulge and make you look slimmer too! Invest in dark coloured pants as these go with just about any top while being very easy to accessorize with!
  4. Distract with detail
Wear clothes that have ruching in the stomach area or have details like a large decorative bow off to one side. This will distract away from the stomach, plus make you look very chic. If your clothes don’t have these details, invest in accessories that can help - like scarves and belts!
  5. Shapewear!
When all else fails, use shapewear! Sucking it in can get tiring, so get elastic and spandex to do it for you. Shapewear will really slim you down and if you are wearing something on the tight side, it will make your body look flawless! Just try not to wear it everyday as it can be bad for your circulation!

Stay chic despite menopause. Get regular haircuts, facials, manicures, and make yourself up whenever you can. The better you feel about yourself, the better you will look and that attitude is the best accessory you can have when fighting the menopausal paunch!
